Ground-based Activities

Our ground-based sessions take place in a calm, low-pressure environment where participants can spend quality time with their chosen horse or pony. Through gentle interaction such as touch, speech, grooming, and breathing techniques, participants build emotional connection while benefiting from the calming, therapeutic presence of the horse.

 Our riding sessions offer proven therapeutic benefits and are often recommended by healthcare professionals. The warmth, rhythm, and movement of the horse are transferred through the rider’s body, helping to relax muscles, strengthen core stability, and improve balance, posture, and coordination.

Physiotherapy sessions at Trewen Meadows are led by our experienced therapist, Vicky, who specialises in working with children and young people. Sessions are designed to be both effective and enjoyable, helping to support motivation and progress.

Benefits of Hippotherapy:

  • Improves posture, balance, and movement 
  • Enhances core strength and coordination 
  • Supports children with conditions such as cerebral palsy, MS, and brain or spinal injuries 
  • Research shows improvements in functional ability over time
